BE A PART OF THE TEAM!

Committed Christians have many opportunities to serve with us, those with a demonstrable ability in Scripture and the recommendation of their local church. Volunteers inside the jail must undergo a background check and a TB test, and agree to attend an annual administrative policies and security training classes.

  • Teachers – Have a passion to teach the Word of God and a heart for souls.
  • Mentors – Apply Scripture and godly compassion to hearts and situations.
  • Test Paper Graders – Our program generates thousands of tests annually that need grading. We provide grading keys, but graders must have a good working knowledge of the Bible in order to judge the accuracy of essay questions.
  • Prayer Partners – Commit to pray regularly for our ministry and for those to whom we minister.
  • Board Members – Be willing and able to attend board meetings, to accomplish committee work, and to support the fund raising efforts of our ministry.
  • Business Owners – Learn how to offer second-chance job interviews to qualified candidates by calling Lorie Irish at 912-544-1740.

Short Bios on our Staff

Matt Coleman

Matt Coleman, Head Chaplain
My name is Matt Coleman, and I have been a Christian for over twenty years. My wife Jessica and I have been married for 8 years, and we have one daughter, Eleanor. Savannah, GA is my hometown. I’ve recently moved back from Texas where I attended seminary at Tyndale Theological Seminary and Biblical Institute to take the lead chaplain job here at CJMGA. I love my city and its people. I love my state and have never felt more at home than crossing the state line on our return trip.

God gives the increase and the decrease (1 Corinthians 3:6; Ephesians 2:8-9) and I am committed to preaching the Word in season and out and watching God reveal Himself to the men and women of the Chatham County Detention Center. I am privileged and blessed to be a part of that great work.

For His Glory,
Matt Coleman

Shaun Marksbury

Shaun Marksbury, Chaplain

After God saved me some twenty years ago in Jacksonville, Florida, He's given me a passion to serve Him. He also blessed me with a wife, my high school sweetheart, and five dear children. Along the way, I've had the blessed opportunity to serve Him in several ministries, and even earn degrees from the Master's College and Seminary. Even so, our desire has been to return to the South and see God's Word go forth into our unique culture. As such, I accepted the invitation to serve at Cornerstone Church of Savannah, through which I learned of this exciting opportunity. It is a privilege to serve inside the community of Savannah, where God transforms the lives of those residing both within and without bars.

For His Kingdom,
Shaun Marksbury

Myra Mitchell

Myra Mitchell, Chaplain

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As the Chaplain for the female population, I consider it a great joy to do the work God has called me to do. As I greet each and every one with the love of Jesus, I am reminded that I to am only a servant of the Most High God. I find myself blessed to be among these women inmates who remind me daily of just how great God is for I too met Jesus at the well and received the living water.

In His name,
Myra Mitchell

Lorie Irish

Lorie Irish, Transitional Ministry Coordinator

As Jobs Program Coordinator, I have a big heart for helping the willing transition from a broken life to a new life as a productive, self sustaining and contributing Christian member of society. I wear many hats and guide our program participants toward getting on their feet firmly planted in new successful ways.

I schedule participants in one of our weekly Bible studies where the principles of successful Christian living are taught by seasoned Bible teachers and pastors. As soon as we can see a participant getting serious about starting a new productive life and displaying a right attitude only then are we comfortable placing our ministries reputation on the line and finding the participant their first job interview. Normally job interviews are scheduled with a Christian owned business that has indicated a willingness to consider a candidate with the right business fit and job skills for a second chance job.

Other issues Lorie may be able to advise participants on are GED's, drivers licenses, preparation for the job interview, finding a place to stay and finding a permanent church home for participants and their family.

May God bless you,

Lorie Irish
Transitional Program Coordinator
